Route 60 work to begin Monday; McKees Rocks Bridge project continues

Motorists in two West Hills communities will need to continue working around two road projects that could impact travel schedules.

PennDOT announced Friday that lane restrictions on Steubenville Pike – Route 60 – will begin Monday, weather permitting.

Crews will conduct patching, milling and paving, as well as island, sidewalk and curb work along Steubenville Pike between Lorish Road and Old Steubenville Pike.

Single-lane restrictions will be in place in both directions through early November from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursdays and continuously from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.

PennDOT also said that area motorists who are curious about the ongoing McKees Rocks Bridge preservation project can sign up for an email distribution list that will provide traffic advisories and construction updates.

According to PennDOT District 11, residents and motorists who use the bridge can sign up by sending their email addresses to ymanyisha@pa.gov. Include “Subscribe – McKees Rocks Bridge” in the subject line of the email.

PennDOT announced Wednesday that lane restrictions will continue on the McKees Rocks Bridge through June 2025 to conduct various operations.

The bridge will continue to utilize a single lane of traffic in each direction. Crews will continue to use an alternating traffic pattern along the bridge as needed weekdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.

The $38.6 million McKees Rocks Bridge preservation project extends between Route 51 (Island Avenue) and Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard). The project includes sidewalk replacement, sidewalk support steel repairs, sidewalk railing painting, full-depth concrete pavement reconstruction of the road and two ramps at Helen Street, ADA curb ramp installation, approach pavement work at intersections of Routes 65 and 51, barrier replacement and upgrade, deck overhang and spall repair, railroad fencing installation, and other miscellaneous construction.

As work occurs, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the fall of 2025.

The Brayman Construction Corp. and Advantage Steel and Construction, LLC, are the prime contractor.

The upcoming work on Steubenville Pike is part of a $15 million highway restoration project in Robinson and Kennedy townships began in early April and stretches from the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh interchange to about a half-mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton interchange.

That project is expected to conclude in the late spring of 2025.
