Sto-Rox schools to receive $100,000 donation for gymnasium, stadium upgrades

Upgrades to the Sto-Rox Junior/Senior High School gymnasium and football stadium are in the works thanks to a $100,000 donation headed the school district’s way.

Sto-Rox is one of nine local school districts named to receive athletics-focused grant money from the Tull Family Foundation.

The foundation made $2 million in grants overall through its new Team UP initiative, designed to support high school athletics.

Sto-Rox Superintendent Sonya Coleman said the district is most thankful for the grant.

“This contribution represents a significant investment in our students, providing them with enhanced opportunities to develop their skills, strengthen their character, and participate in safe, high-quality athletic experiences,” Coleman said.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the Tull Family Foundation for their commitment to all of our students and our student-athletes and for recognizing the vital role athletics play in promoting teamwork, discipline, and school pride.”

Coleman appeared at a press conference last month during which the grant awards were announced. Also attending were other school leaders, Tull Family Foundation co-founder Thomas Tull, and several Pittsburgh sports legends.
