Lola Garner scored 15 points as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart edged Riverside 41-39 in Thursday night girls’ basketball. Sto-Rox defeated Ellwood City 49-38, Mars narrowly beat Moon 44-42, and West Greene topped Bishop Canevin 37-29. Moon’s swimming teams also swept Butler.

The Sto-Rox boys basketball team ended an eight-game losing streak with an 80-50 victory over host Carlynton Wednesday night. Adam Thomas led the scoring with 18 points, helping the Vikings maintain a playoff position as they look to build confidence for their remaining games.

Loice Kalau led Montour to a 54-29 win over Ambridge, scoring 15 points and dominating defensively with 12 rebounds and six blocks. Hopewell defeated Sto-Rox 62-47 and Ellwood City triumphed over Carlynton 60-32. In wrestling, Moon Area finished second at the Fred Bell Tournament at Grove City.

Moon Area defeated defending champion Chartiers Valley, 52-49, in WPIAL Class 5A boys basketball play thanks to Jackson Bauman’s late 3-pointer. This marked Chartiers Valley’s first section loss, while Moon improved to 13-3 overall. Other West Hills winners were Montour, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Cornell and Bishop Canevin.

In a thrilling WPIAL Class 3A girls basketball game, Quaker Valley’s Mimi Thiero scored 24 of her 29 points in the second half, leading her team to a narrow 37-36 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Sto-Rox downed Mohawk, but four other West Hills schools came up short.
