County DA withdraws cases against 3 men charged with sexual assault
Criminal charges against three men accused of holding two teenage girls captive in a house in Kennedy Township in December 2025 and sexually assaulting them have been dismissed.
Amaud Berry and Dashawn Hines, both 19 and both from McKees Rocks, and Andre Hines, 20, also of McKees Rocks, were scheduled to stand trial this week on multiple felony charges in connection with the incident, which authorities said took place at a home on Castle View Drive on Dec. 13, 2025.
But a spokesperson for the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office said via email Monday that the office withdrew the cases against all three men “because of evidentiary issues resulting in our office being unable to proceed.”
The spokesperson said that the nature of the case prohibited any elaboration on the decision to withdraw the cases, which was made during a court hearing held May 26.
Andre Hines and Berry were facing more than two dozen charges, including 16 felony charges. The charges included three counts each of sexual assault and corruption of minors, and two counts each of rape by forcible compulsion, rape of a substantially impaired person, conspiracy to commit rape by forcible compulsion, and unlawful restraint of a minor,
Dashawn Hines also was facing more than two dozen charges, including two counts each of sexual assault, rape by forcible compulsion, rape of a substantially impaired person, conspiracy to commit rape by forcible compulsion, false imprisonment and unlawful restraint of a minor.
Some of the offenses alleged to have been committed by the three men occurred on Dec. 12, 2025, and some on Dec. 14, 2025, according to court records.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Kennedy police received a call in the afternoon of Dec. 14 to check on two girls, ages 14 and 16, after they were told the girls were being held against their will by adults at a residence.
While responding to the call, officers found the two girls walking on Ewing Road, and the girls identified the home where they said they had been held. The two girls were then transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital for medical evaluation, and they were later interviewed by county police detectives at the hospital.
According to court records, the girls told detectives they used drugs at a home on Castle View Drive, then were restrained before being raped by the three men.
Kennedy Township police Chief Anthony Bruni said he could not comment on these specific cases because township police had turned them over to county police early in the process. Bruni said typically if a case is withdrawn it could be because of issues with the investigation, or the alleged victims in a case either changed their story or changed their mind about testifying.
While Dashawn Hines no longer faces charges associated with that incident, he’s currently being held in the county jail in connection with the fatal shooting of two men that occurred on July 25 in Clairton.
Dashawn Hines was arrested at a North Side business on July 29 and arraigned the following day on two counts of homicide and carrying a firearm without a license, among other charges.
He is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 12 on that case.
