Deluzio: Nomination applications for service academies now available
I was in my senior year of high school on 9/11, and in the aftermath of the attacks I was determined to serve our country. I was admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy -- and I went on to serve in uniform across several deployments. Now, as our Congressman, I’m honored to nominate the next class of future military leaders.
My office is accepting nomination applications from eligible young Western Pennsylvanians to attend a United States service academy. The service academies are the U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs), the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (no congressional nomination required), the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point), the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis).
Each applicant for a nomination from my office must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1 of the year of admission to an academy:
- Age: Be at least 17 years old, but not yet 23 years old (age 25 for the Merchant Marine Academy).
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen and a permanent resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Marital Status: Unmarried, not pregnant and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.
- Residence: Be a legal resident of Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District.
- Skill / Fitness: Must meet the medical, physical and academic requirements of the Academy.
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. The nomination application is on my website. Any questions should be directed to PA17ServiceAcademyNominations@mail.house.gov or with a call to my Carnegie Flagship Office at (412) 344-5583.
It’s a great honor to nominate outstanding young constituents to the nation’s service academies, especially as a Naval Academy alum myself. I strongly encourage any patriotic young person interested in military service to apply.
If I can help you or your family with issues related to federal agencies, please let my office know. For more on my work in Congress, sign up for my e-newsletter and follow me on social media.
Very respectfully,

Chris Deluzio
Member of Congress
