Jake Johnson scored a game-high 17 points and Frankie Igrec added 11 to propel Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 56-35 victory over host Union Thursday night in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 4 boys basketball contest.
The victory boosted OLSH’s overall record to 3-1 and evened its section record at 1-1.
The Chargers jumped to a 16-8 first-quarter lead and increased that to 27-15 at halftime.
Union, which was led by Jordyn Kelley’s seven points, was outscored 13-11 in the third quarter.
Tiernan McCullough scored eight points for OLSH.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Quaker Valley 49, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 30
Mimi Thiero showed how she became Quaker Valley’s all-time leading scorer, pouring in 38 points as the Quakers defeated the visiting Chargers in a Class 3A Section 1 matchup.
Thiero, a University of Maryland commit, eclipsed the school record point total of 1,396 by scoring 28 points in a win over Sto-Rox Monday night and entered Thursday’s game with a career total of 1,399.
The Quakers wasted no time taking control Thursday night, outscoring OLSH 22-3 in the first quarter.
Leah Parker led the Chargers, now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in section play, with 13 points and Kiera Watson contributed nine.

Mohawk 39, Sto-Rox 37
Addy Moskal’s last-second basket proved to be the difference as the host Warriors edged the Vikings in a Class 3A Section 1 contest.
Mohawk outscored Sto-Rox 10-2 in the first quarter but the Vikings, who got 13 points from Dani Reel, recovered in the second quarter and cut the halftime deficit to 20-18.
Mohawk held Sto-Rox to six third-quarter points and led by seven going into the final quarter, but Sto-Rox rallied to go ahead by three at one point in the quarter before Mohawk pulled even.
With the score tied at 37-37, Sto-Rox had possession with a chance to win. But Moskal rebounded a missed shot and went the length of the court to convert a layup before the final buzzer sounded.
Moskal finished with 16 points and McKenna Stewart added 14 for the winners. The Vikings fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the section.
South Fayette 72, Montour 26
The defending Class 5A state champion Lions showed they haven’t skipped a beat, as they beat the visiting Spartans in a Section 4 contest.
Haylie Lamonde and Juliette Leroux each scored 18 points to lead South Fayette, which sprinted to a 23-5 first-quarter lead and held a 43-13 advantage at halftime.
Ryan Oldaker added 14 points and Lailah Wright contributed 12 for the winners, who improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in section play.
Brooklyn Young’s 11 points led Montour, which fell to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in section play.
SWIMMING
Moon vs. Quaker Valley
The Tigers swept the Quakers, with the boys winning 90-73 and the girls capturing a 106-67 victory.
Individual event winners for the Tigers girls team were Ria Schwartz, Addie Munnell, Mimi Munnell, Anya Muralidharan and Gabby Donnelly. Donnelly was selected the top performer on the girls side. In the boys meet, Logan Ellis sped to first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events while Chris Bailey was victorious in the 100 butterfly. Anthony Demarco and Jacob Lescalette were named the meet’s top performers
