Strong efforts by a handful of performers and superior depth overall paid off for Moon Area’s boys and girls swim teams, as they powered past Montour Thursday in a WPIAL dual meet at Montour.
In the girls meet, Mimi Munnell and Madison Puthoff each registered a pair of first-place finishes and also teamed on a winning 200-yard medley relay effort to help Moon to a 93-71 victory.
On the boys side, Isaac Tennant claimed wins in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle and also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay effort as the Tigers swam to a 97-63 win.
On the girls side, Mimi Munnell won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events while Puthoff took first in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
Addi Munnell won the 50 free and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team.
Other event winners for Moon’s boys were Evan Slawuta, who won the 200 free; Brayden Freund, who placed first in the 100 butterfly; and Damien McGill, who won the 1-meter diving. Slawuta and Freund also helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish and took part in the winning 200 medley relay effort.
Montour had several individual event winners. On the girls side, Caitlyn Dettling took the 100 free and 100 breaststroke, Anastasia Ulintz won the 100 butterfly and Taylor Chiavetta won the 1-meter diving.
Ulintz also helped lead two winning relay efforts – the 400 free and 200 free – and Dettling also swam on the 200 free relay quartet.
On the boys side, Montour’s Joseph Stahurski won the 50 free and 500 free, Nikolas Tomic won the 100 backstroke and Aaron He won the 100 breaststroke. Tomic and He also swam on the Spartans’ victorious 400 free relay team.
In addition to their event winners, the Tigers scored numerous points with their depth; for example, in the 100 butterfly event that Ulintz won, the Tigers placed second, third and fourth to rack up nine points to Ulintz’s six for finishing first.
