High schools: Montour blanks Carlynton in girls soccer

Irelyn Hobbs collected three more goals to spark Montour to a 6-0 victory over Carlynton Saturday in a WPIAL girls nonsection soccer match.

Brooklyn Young, Holly Zulka and Uma Hann each added one goal for the Spartans.

Three goalkeepers shared the clean sheet in Maddie Lewis, Sydney Toulouse and Hailey Herbst.

Moon Area’s boys and girls teams both finished among the top five in their respective groups Saturday, with the girls placing fourth and the boys fifth. A total of 13 teams competed at the varsity level.

Sonya Taylor led the Moon girls by medaling in fifth place with a time of 21 minutes, 10.95 seconds. Also earning a medal with her 11th-place finish was Callie Speerhas with a time of 22:33.35.

In the boys meet, Owen Romasco led the Tigers by placing 10th with a time of 18:49.43.

In junior varsity action, the Moon boys placed sixth among 11 teams, led by Jonathan Zarabi (12th) and Noah Hoberg (16th).

Moon’s junior varsity girls wound up third among seven teams, led by Tegan Wiefling (12th) and Madelyn Dickinson (14th).
