This weekend, two West Hills high schools host girls basketball tournaments. Moon Area is set to compete in the Moon Girls Tip-Off Tournament, while Carlynton participates in the Carlynton Tip-Off Classic. Both teams face challenging seasons ahead with returning players and new additions on the roster.
Maria Depner led Moon Area with 18 points in a 40-24 victory over Union, finishing strong in the final quarter. In another girls game, Burgettstown defeated Bishop Canevin 43-27. In boys action, Freedom beat Cornell 66-47. Moon Area's wrestling team triumphed over Quaker Valley 59-27.
Lola Garner's 15 points led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 43-26 victory over Beaver Area Monday night in girls basketball. Montour defeated West Mifflin 63-28, with Tiffany Miller scoring 13 points. Montour improved to 3-0.
The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart girls basketball team opens its season Monday against Beaver Area and will be counting on returning starters Leah Parker and Lola Garner to lead the way. However, crucial players are injured, including Sara Daeschner and Anna Beth Grayson.

In other games, Yough defeated the Sto-Rox girls, 60-33, and Bishop Canevin beat Elizabeth-Forward 65-55 in boys game behind Drew Allen Jr.'s 22 points.
