A 26-year-old former Baltimore resident will spend at least the next 16 years – and possibly the next four decades – in prison after being sentenced Tuesday for the murder of a Kennedy Township man who was attacked on the Montour Trail in Moon Township In October 2024.
A man whom authorities said entered a Robinson Township home Sunday morning and stabbed two residents, then fled in a stolen vehicle that later crashed on Interstate 576, killing him, was identified as a 36-year-old McKees Rocks man.
Allegheny County police were investigating a stabbing incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Robinson Township. First responders to a home in the 100 block of K Row found two stabbing victims. The suspect in the stabbing fled in a stolen vehicle, which he later crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The defendant in a case involving the stabbing death of a Kennedy Township man last fall along the Montour Trail has been declared competent to stand trial. A preliminary hearing for the defendant was postponed until Oct. 31, 2025.
The Judicial Conduct Board dismissed a complaint against Pittsburgh magistrate Xander Orenstein, who faced criticism after releasing a man charged with a fatal stabbing. State Rep. Valerie Gaydos urged the investigation but the Board found no judicial misconduct. Orenstein remains off arraignment duties.
State Rep. Anita Kulik has called for the resignation of Magisterial District Justice Xander Orenstein following the fatal stabbing of Officer Benjamin Brallier. The suspect in the case was previously released on nonmonetary bail by Orenstein. Kulik calls for an investigation by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court into the circumstances surrounding Brallier's death and the judicial system’s failures.
A 25-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of criminal homicide in connection with the stabbing death of a Kennedy man who was found on the Montour Trail Monday afternoon.
