Touch-A-Truck event set for Friday at Robinson Municipal Complex
The Robinson Township Library will host a Touch-A-Truck event from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 7, in the parking lot of the township Municipal Complex at 5440 Campbells Run Road.
The event will feature a variety of vehicles that children can explore and learn how those machines help keep the community safe.
To accommodate noise-sensitive guests, the event will start with a calm 30-minute session at 9:30 a.m. Those planning to attend might want to bring ear protection or retreat indoors at 10:30 a.m. when the noise restrictions are lifted and children in attendance can honk horns and sound sirens to their hearts’ content.

Battle of the Barrel set for Saturday in Crafton
The second annual Battle of the Barrel for the Crafton Volunteer Fire Department is taking place at noon Saturday, Aug. 8, at 65 Station St.
The event is sponsored by the department and Crafton Fireman’s Club 128. There will be a 50/50 drawing, prize auctions, food and drinks, raffles, gift baskets and different activities for the family.
Food trucks start arriving at 11 a.m., and the trucks include The Roaming Bean, Notorious BLT, Team Tabbie, Cotton Candy Creations, The Crafted Chapter, Lines by Lace, DB Bonded in Grace and Kona Ice.
The “Battle of the Barrel” is a traditional firefighter water-pumping competition held in various local communities where teams use high-pressure fire hoses to push a suspended metal barrel along a cable toward their opponents’ side. Last year, Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department was the winner as many different departments were invited to the event.
Three-person teams, which include someone holding the nozzle, the backup and hose handler, use water streams to force the barrel over the opponent’s mark. These events are typically hosted at summer festivals.
