
Play will get underway Monday, Oct. 21, in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 3A girls soccer tournament, and the West Hills will have two representatives in action.
No. 5 seed Moon, which tied for the Section 2 championship with West Allegheny, will host No. 12 seed Hampton at 6:30 p.m.
And No. 8 seed Montour also will be at home, as the Spartans entertain No. 9 seed Franklin Regional in a 6:30 p.m. match.
Moon finished the regular season with an overall mark of 12-3 and went 10-2 in the section.
Hampton went 12-4-1 overall and 6-4 in Section 1, good for a third-place finish.
Moon has won at least a share of the section title the past four years and five of the last six seasons.
The Tigers reached last year’s Class 3A championship game but lost in double overtime to South Fayette.
Montour is 11-5-2 overall and finished third in Section 2 play at 8-2-2.
The winners of those two first-round games will play Thursday in quarterfinal round action.
Two more West Hills schools are scheduled to see action Tuesday as the Class A tournament gets underway.
No. 9 seed Carlynton will visit No. 8 seed Freedom at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Cougars set a school record for victories while going 14-4 during the regular season and were 8-4 in Section 3, where they finished third.
No. 14 seed Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is scheduled to visit Waynesburg Central, where the Chargers will battle No. 3 seed Bentworth at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
OLSH enters the tournament with an overall record of 6-7 and finished 6-4 and in fourth place in Section 1.
Bentworth won the Section 2 title with a record of 9-1 and is 15-1 overall.
