High school sports: Moon Area baseball falls to Quaker Valley in rain-shortened outing

Three consecutive fifth-inning RBI doubles netted Quaker Valley three runs, enabling the Quakers to come from behind and beat Moon Area, 4-2, Friday in WPIAL non-section baseball contest cut short by rain.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth, a run-scoring double by Henry Zupanc tied the score for Quaker Valley, and Ryan Finamore followed with another RBI double to plate the go-ahead run. Todd Kagle made it three RBI doubles in the inning, stretching the lead to 4-2.

Moon threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning, putting runners at the corners with no one out, but the game was halted and eventually called after 5 ½ complete innings.

Jarrod Golden singled home a run in the second inning for Moon and Andrew Cross belted a solo homer in the fourth.

Cross had two of Moon’s three hits.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Hopewell 3, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 0

The Vikings blanked the Chargers, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20, in a Class 2A Section 4 matchup Thursday night.

Patrick Altmar paced OLSH in kills and blocks and Brady Rooney led the team in setting assists.

The loss dropped the Chargers to 1-7 in section play and 3-10 overall.


Ambridge 3, Montour 0

The Bridgers swept the Spartans in a Class 2A Section 4 match Thursday night. No details were available.

The loss left Montour 3-4 in Section 4 play and 4-7 overall.


Seneca Valley 3, Moon Area 0

The Raiders did not lose a game in defeating the Tigers Thursday night, posting set scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-17, in Moon’s final outing of the season.

With the loss, the Tigers finished Class 3A Section 3 play with an 0-8 record and an overall mark of 1-12.

No further details were available.
