HS roundup: Moon Area girls whip New Castle; OLSH, Sto-Rox, Bishop Canevin fall

Camryn Kaufman scored 14 points, leading Moon Area to a 53-27 victory over New Castle in girls basketball Monday night. Beaver Falls came from behind to edge Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, while Quaker Valley downed Sto-Rox and Serra Catholic defeated Bishop Canevin. In boys play, Hopewell topped Sto-Rox.

High school roundup: Moon Area wrestlers place second; Tiger boys, girls basketball wins

Moon Area excelled at the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships, finishing second with 260.5 points, just behind North Allegheny. Three wrestlers secured gold in their weight classes, contributing to the team's strong performance. In basketball, Moon won both in boys and girls competition and Carlynton's boys also won.

High school basketball: OLSH claims key win over Neshannock; Montour, Bishop Canevin fall

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart defeated Neshannock 60-43 in boys basketball action Friday night, handing the Lancers their first loss in WPIAL Class 2A. Tiernan McCullough and Jake Johnson led with 16 points each. In other matches, Bishop Canevin and Montour fell while Carlynton bested Jefferson-Morgan in girls action.

Girls basketball: Bishop Canevin, OLSH, Montour, Sto-Rox all claim wins

In girls basketball Thursday night, Bishop Canevin defeated Monessen 45-42, led by Kya Cooley's 15 points. Sto-Rox won 51-16 against New Brighton, while Our Lady of the Sacred Heart triumphed 59-11 over Ellwood City. Montour dominated New Castle 55-6 in another game.

Lucy Vetter's 20 points led Carlynton to a 46-37 girls basketball win over Steel Valley, improving the Cougars' record to 4-9. Despite trailing at halftime, Carlynton dominated the second half, outscoring Steel Valley 17-8 in the third quarter to secure the victory.

Girls basketball: Montour tops Moon; OLSH, Bishop Canevin post wins

Reese Vojtecky led Montour with 20 points, helping secure a 49-43 comeback win over Moon Area in a girls basketball game Monday night. Other notable performances included Tiffany Miller's 14 points for Montour and a game-leading 22 points from Isabella Sysak for Bishop Canevin.

Bishop Canevin defeated Avella 53-27, in WPIAL girls basketball action Thursday night, with Isabella Sysak scoring 23 points. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart triumphed over New Brighton 69-9, led by Camryn Hummel's 12 points. Sto-Rox, Carlynton and Moon Area all lost.
