The Sto-Rox Vikings used a big fourth quarter to post a 43-39 victory over Springdale Saturday in the second game of the Deer Lakes Tournament. At the Montour Tipoff Tournament, the host Spartans won their second straight game, beating Quaker Valley.
Defending WPIAL Class 5A boys basketball champion Moon ran into a buzzsaw in its season opener Friday night, losing to Imani Christian. In girls action, Montour started its season with a win in its own Tipoff Tournament.

After losing its regular-season finale a week ago, the Montour Spartans open WPIAL playoff action Friday night against Mars. Five other West Hills area schools will begin chasing their playoff dreams this weekend as well.
