Tiernan McCullough scored 32 points to spark Our Lady of the Sacred Heart past Clairton, 64-37, in the opening round of the WPIAL boys Class 2A basketball tournament Monday night. In girls Class 1A tournament action, Bishop Canevin whipped Springdale, 45-12.
The Moon Area boys and girls swim teams outdistanced the competition over the weekend at the Midwestern Athletic Conference Championship meet held Friday and Saturday at Moon. A total of 13 schools competed in both the girls and boys meets.
Moon Area's Liam Costa won the 160-pound title and Carlynton's Henry Barbisch ruled the 285-pound class at their respective WPIAL sectional tournaments Saturday. Seventeen area wrestlers secured berths in next week's WPIAL Championships.

Moon Area sophomore Haley Smarsh will look to make it two straight championships at Saturday's WPIAL Girls Wrestling Individual Championships, held at North Allegheny High School. Smarsh is the top seed at 130 pounds while Montour's Kristen Walzer is seeded No. 2 in her 100-pound weight class.
