Moon Area golf teams start season strong with notable wins

The Moon Area girls golf team secured a victory against defending state champion Peters Township by a score of 159-169, improving to 3-0. Senior Angelina Schild led with a 1-under-par 35, while junior Liv DeGori and senior Aubrey Marasco both shot 40. Moon's boys team opened its season with a win over Montour.

Rowe resigns his post as Moon Area baseball coach after three seasons

Rich Rowe resigned as head baseball coach at Moon Area High School after a 6-12 season. Concerned about player confidence and community division, he chose not to reapply for the position. Rowe plans to focus on family and baseball in the future.

Maria Depner contributed to Moon Area's victory in the inaugural Pennsylvania Scholastic Sevens Cup after her performance in the PIAA Track and Field Championships, scoring eight tries and helping the team win four consecutive matches.

PIAA track: Three West Hills athletes bring home medals from state meet

Three athletes from the West Hills area earned medals during Saturday's final session of the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University. Carlynton's Jordynn Carter secured third in the girls triple jump, while Rachel Stepp and Maria Depner, both of Moon Area, placed fifth and seventh in their events, respectively.

PIAA track: Moon’s Stepp stays hot, earns berth in Saturday’s 400-meter final

Rachel Stepp of Moon Area recorded the fifth-fastest time in the 400-meters prelims at the PIAA Track and Field Championships with 57.17 seconds, qualifying for Saturday finals. Other local athletes faced challenges Friday but more will be competing Saturday.

PIAA track: Carlynton’s Lewis defies odds by reaching state meet with torn ACL

Carlynton High School senior Ryan Lewis, recovering from two torn ACL injuries, will compete at the 2025 PIAA Track and Field Championships. Despite his most recent injury, he finished fifth at the WPIAL meet to earn a spot in the PIAA meet.
