Montour's Ama Sow has come a long way on the basketball court – and an even longer way off the court. Now he leads the top-seeded Spartans into the WPIAL Tournament, with their first game scheduled for Tuesday at home against Franklin Regional.

Girls basketball: OLSH advances, Moon bounced in first round of WPIAL Tournament

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart met little resistance in its first-round game of the WPIAL Class 3A girls basketball tournament Friday night as the Chargers pummeled South Allegheny, 56-8. In Class 5A, Moon Area wasn't as successful, as the Tigers fell to Indiana, 44-39.

Montour's boys basketball team closed out regular-season play with an easy win over Ringgold while Bishop Canevin lost to New Castle. In girls action, Moon downed Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Montour lost to Canon-McMillan.

High school basketball: Montour boys earn top seed in WPIAL tournament; OLSH girls earn No. 3 spot

The fields for this year's WPIAL boys and girls basketball tournaments were unveiled Monday and the Montour boys team is the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A bracket. Other boys teams competing are Moon, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Carlynton and Bishop Canevin. Local girls teams are OLSH, Moon and Bishop Canevin.

Boys basketball: Montour, Bishop Canevin finish section play as unbeaten champions

The Montour Spartans, the WPIAL's top-ranked Class 5 boys basketball team, finished its section schedule unbeaten with a win over Moon Friday night. Bishop Canevin also completed its section schedule unbeaten.
