Cornell, Carlynton look for third straight victories
A pair of West Hills area teams will look to extend their season-opening win streaks to three games, but they’ll have to do it on the road. Carlynton will travel to meet South Allegheny at 7 p.m. Friday while Cornell heads to Oakmont to play Riverview at noon Saturday.
Holstein, Reid power Pitt past Kent State, 55-24
Redshirt freshman transfer Eli Holstein threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns and Desmond Reid rolled up 145 yards rushing to go with a 78-yard punt return for a score as Pitt opened its season by blitzing Kent State, 55-24, Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. (Photos)
Weather washes out Montour-Moon matchup
Friday's Moon-Montour game was canceled in the second quarter due to inclement weather and will not be replayed. In other games involving West Hills area schools, Fort Cherry defeated Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 41-14, Carlynton blanked Avella 2109, Seton LaSalle topped Bishop Canevin, 21-14, Cornell downed California 27-3.(Photos)
Moon hosts Montour in early season matchup Friday
Montour visits Moon in one of six WPIAL football games involving West Hills area schools Friday night. In other games, Bishop Canevin will open its season against Seton LaSalle, Carlynton travels to Avella, Cornell hosts California, Our Lady of Sacred Heart visits Fort Cherry and Sto-Rox hosts Carmichaels.
