The Spartans overcame a halftime deficit, showcasing team composure and advancing to face Chartiers Valley next.
Eight West Hills high school basketball teams earned WPIAL Tournament spots, with Bishop Canevin, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Sto-Rox placing both boys and girls teams in the playoffs. Other West Hills qualifiers are Moon Area and Montour in boys action.
AJ Buford scored crucial points in overtime to lead Moon Area to a 48-45 victory over Montour, securing third place in WPIAL Class 5A Section 4. Montour also advanced to the playoffs despite the loss. Bishop Canevin won its Class 3A section outright while Our Lady of the Sacred Heart earned a share of its Class 2A section title.
Tiffany Miller's 19 points led Montour past Moon Area, 46-44, Thursday night in a key WPIAL girls basketball game. Montour can reach the WPIAL playoffs with a Chartiers Valley win over Mars Friday night.
