Moon Area fell to West Allegheny in the final bout of their dual wrestling meet Wednesday night while Carlynton came up short against Avonworth.
Moon Area's Cael Yanek brought home gold Saturday from the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships, which wrapped up its two-day run at Fox Chapel High School. Moon finished fifth as a team while Montour wound up 21st and Carlynton 23rd among 37 schools.
Five wrestlers recorded pins to help Moon Area post an easy win over Blackhawk Wednesday night in a dual meet. Carlynton fell to Quaker Valley in another dual meet.
Braiden Sudor and Henry Barbisch both placed among the top five to help Carlynton finish 21st among 34 teams competing in the Burgettstown Invitational high school wrestling tournament Saturday.
Three West Hills area school placed within the top eight at the Ed Driscoll MAC wrestling tournament held Saturday at Laurel High School. Cael Yanek of Moon took home the only individual title among local wrestlers.
Moon coach Mike Muraco has a 25-wrestler roster to choose from this season, and that depth should pay dividends as the season unfolds. Haley Smarsh, the lone girl on the roster, is a standout.
Carlynton wrestling coach Ed White welcomes back an experienced crew for the 2024-25 season that includes Henry Barbisch, a place winner at last year's WPIAL Tournament.
