High schools: Moon girls down Union; Bishop Canevin girls, Cornell boys fall; Moon wrestling wins

Maria Depner led Moon Area with 18 points in a 40-24 victory over Union, finishing strong in the final quarter. In another girls game, Burgettstown defeated Bishop Canevin 43-27. In boys action, Freedom beat Cornell 66-47. Moon Area's wrestling team triumphed over Quaker Valley 59-27.

Boys basketball: Avsec powers OLSH past Riverview in season opener

Austin Avsec led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 66-46 boys basketball victory over Riverview Tuesday night, scoring 23 points. Jake Johnson and Nolan Reed added 14 and 11 points, respectively. In hockey, Montour shut out Hampton 4-0, with Trey Varga scoring two goals.

RMU basketball: Men take 3-game win streak to Green Bay; women visit Mercyhurst

The Robert Morris University men's basketball team, currently 6-3, will begin Horizon League play against Wisconsin-Green Bay Thursday. The Colonial women, meanwhile, will trek to Erie to take on winless Mercyhurst Wednesday morning.

Girls basketball: Garner leads OLSH to season-opening win; Montour moves to 3-0

Lola Garner's 15 points led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 43-26 victory over Beaver Area Monday night in girls basketball. Montour defeated West Mifflin 63-28, with Tiffany Miller scoring 13 points. Montour improved to 3-0.

Boys basketball: Key returnees should make OLSH a hard team to deal with in ’25-’26

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart boys basketball coach Mike Rodriguez is optimistic about the upcoming season, having several key returnees from last year's successful team. Although facing challenges, Rodriguez notes a strong team chemistry and dedication among players.
