Two West Hills area wrestlers are seeded No. 1 in their respective weight classes for Saturday's WPIAL Sectional Tournaments, taking place at various locations. Carlynton, Montour and Moon Area all will be represented.
Girls wrestling: Moon’s Smarsh earns top seed in WPIAL Tournament
Moon Area sophomore Haley Smarsh will look to make it two straight championships at Saturday's WPIAL Girls Wrestling Individual Championships, held at North Allegheny High School. Smarsh is the top seed at 130 pounds while Montour's Kristen Walzer is seeded No. 2 in her 100-pound weight class.
High school basketball: Montour boys cruise to win in tournament tuneup; Moon girls beat OLSH
Montour's boys basketball team closed out regular-season play with an easy win over Ringgold while Bishop Canevin lost to New Castle. In girls action, Moon downed Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Montour lost to Canon-McMillan.
High school basketball: Montour boys earn top seed in WPIAL tournament; OLSH girls earn No. 3 spot
The fields for this year's WPIAL boys and girls basketball tournaments were unveiled Monday and the Montour boys team is the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A bracket. Other boys teams competing are Moon, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Carlynton and Bishop Canevin. Local girls teams are OLSH, Moon and Bishop Canevin.
Boys basketball: Montour, Bishop Canevin finish section play as unbeaten champions
The Montour Spartans, the WPIAL's top-ranked Class 5 boys basketball team, finished its section schedule unbeaten with a win over Moon Friday night. Bishop Canevin also completed its section schedule unbeaten.
Girls basketball: Moon downs Montour; OLSH, Bishop Canevin prevail
Jaedin Griggs scored 26 points and Maria Depner added 20 as Moon Area downed Montour, 58-45, Thursday night in a WPIAL Class 5A Section 3 matchup at Montour. In other games, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Bishop Canevin won.
High school basketball: Bishop Canevin, Montour girls fall; Sto-Rox boys lose
Wednesday was a rough night for West Hills area high school basketball teams, as Bishop Canevin and Montour girls teams lost, as did Sto-Rox's boys team.
