High school roundup: OLSH girls roll; Sto-Rox, Cornell boys pocket wins

Lola Garner scored 22 points, leading Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 62-19 victory over Ellwood City in a WPIAL Class 3A girls basketball game. OLSH's boys team lost, as did Montour and Carlynton while Sto-Rox and Cornell captured wins.

Girls basketball: Bishop Canevin, Sto-Rox, Montour claim victories

Gianna Matthews scored 16 points as Bishop Canevin defeated Monessen 46-37 in a WPIAL Class 1A girls basketball game. The night also celebrated their 2012-13 championship team. Sto-Rox and Montour secured wins in their respective matchups.

High school roundup: Moon boys fall to Lincoln Park; Clairton stops Sto-Rox

Moon Area lost 61-53 to Lincoln Park after leading at halftime. Turnovers and missed shots plagued Moon in the final quarter. Jackson Bauman led Moon with 26 points, while Lincoln Park’s Josh Pratt scored 25 to secure the victory. Sto-Rox fell to Clairton in another boys game.

High school basketball: Sto-Rox, Carlynton boys prevail; OLSH, Montour, Sto-Rox girls win

Adam Thomas scored 19 points, leading Sto-Rox to a 66-57 win over Cornell. Ishaga Barre shone for Carlynton, scoring 21 points in the Cougars' victory. In girls play, Montour defeated Central Valley, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart held off Serra Catholic and Sto-Rox whipped Springdale.

High school basketball: Host Carlynton boys, girls take tournament openers; Moon girls fall in Tigers tourney

Carlynton's boys defeated Cornell 47-35, powered by Maurice Segnonou's 12 points and Ishaga Barrie's 11, advancing to face East Allegheny. The Cougars girls team also won its tournament opener. Other West Hills winners Friday included Moon Area boys and OLSH boys.

In a thrilling overtime game, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's girls basketball team edged Lincoln Park, 50-49, highlighted by Camryn Hummel’s decisive 3-pointer. Lola Garner scored 17 points for OLSH. Bishop Canevin won its first game of the season while Sto-Rox fell to 1-2 with a loss to Burgettstown.

Boys basketball: Hughes anticipates better effort this year from Sto-Rox

Ryan Hughes, in his second year of his second stint coaching the Sto-Rox boys basketball team, anticipates a much-improved season despite last year's struggles. With returning experience and athletic players, he believes the Vikings can surprise critics, aiming for greater success in the 2025-26 campaign.
