High schools: Moon boys edge Montour in OT; Bishop Canevin wins section crown; OLSH shares title

AJ Buford scored crucial points in overtime to lead Moon Area to a 48-45 victory over Montour, securing third place in WPIAL Class 5A Section 4. Montour also advanced to the playoffs despite the loss. Bishop Canevin won its Class 3A section outright while Our Lady of the Sacred Heart earned a share of its Class 2A section title.

Girls basketball: Montour, OLSH, Bishop Canevin post victories

Tiffany Miller's 19 points led Montour past Moon Area, 46-44, Thursday night in a key WPIAL girls basketball game. Montour can reach the WPIAL playoffs with a Chartiers Valley win over Mars Friday night. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Bishop Canevin also won and are heading to the WPIAL playoffs along with Sto-Rox.

High school roundup: Sto-Rox boys clinch playoff spot; OLSH’s Johnson hits 1,000th career point mark

LJ Washington led Sto-Rox to a 72-35 victory over McGuffey, securing a WPIAL playoff spot for the Vikings. In other games, Keystone Oaks defeated Bishop Canevin 49-43, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart beat Rochester 78-30, and Moon Area topped West Allegheny 68-38,. OLSH's Jake Johnson scored his 1,000th career point.

High school hockey: Moon edges rival Montour, clinches third place in PIHL Varsity A Blue

The Moon Area Tigers won their fifth consecutive game, defeating the Montour Spartans 3-2 Monday night in a PIHL matchup at Clearview Arena. Despite Montour's early lead, the Tigers rallied, with Jordan Rieke scoring twice to secure the victory. Moon finished the regular season at 14-5, ready for playoffs.

High school basketball: Montour, OLSH boys win; Bishop Canevin, OLSH girls roll

Mark Carter scored 21 points to lead Montour to a 56-42 win over Mars Monday night, improving their record to 5-6 in section play. Montour is contending for a playoff spot. In other games, OLSH whipped Western Beaver and in girls play, the Chargers and Bishop Canevin won.

High school wrestling: Moon Area’s Smarsh takes home gold at North Allegheny Invitational

Haley Smarsh from Moon Area showcased her wrestling prowess at the North Allegheny Girls Invitational, winning the 130-pound title with quick pins, including a 26-second victory over Hannah Beck and a decisive fall against Saphia Davis in the finals.

High schools: Bishop Canevin boys outlast McGuffey; Moon girls down Avonworth

Jackson Maddox led Bishop Canevin to a 56-41 win over McGuffey, scoring 22 points. The Crusaders improved to 12-7 overall, pulling away in the final quarter. In girls basketball, Moon Area defeated Avonworth 44-26.
