Girls basketball: OLSH comes up short against Quaker Valley’s Thiero

In a thrilling WPIAL Class 3A girls basketball game, Quaker Valley's Mimi Thiero scored 24 of her 29 points in the second half, leading her team to a narrow 37-36 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Sto-Rox downed Mohawk, but four other West Hills schools came up short.

High school wrestling: Montour, Moon roll to dual meet victories; Cornell basketball falls

The Montour Spartans defeated Blackhawk, 47-17, in a WPIAL Class 3A dual wrestling meet Wednesday night, with pins from Damon Nelson, Ethan Chacon, and Jacob Halbedl. Meanwhile, Moon Area triumphed over West Allegheny, 42-25, supported by four pins from Esken, Gould, Olszewski, and Razipour.

Tiernan McCullough scored 22 points, leading Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 52-35 boys basketball win over Laurel Tuesday night. Moon fell to Lincoln Park while Carlynton topped Cornell in a battle of two West Hills teams, Montour lost to Chartiers Valley and Sto-Rox fell to Beaver.

Camryn Kaufman scored 14 points, leading Moon Area to a 53-27 victory over New Castle in girls basketball Monday night. Beaver Falls came from behind to edge Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, while Quaker Valley downed Sto-Rox and Serra Catholic defeated Bishop Canevin. In boys play, Hopewell topped Sto-Rox.

Moon Area excelled at the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships, finishing second with 260.5 points, just behind North Allegheny. Three wrestlers secured gold in their weight classes, contributing to the team's strong performance. In basketball, Moon won both in boys and girls competition and Carlynton's boys also won.

Bishop Canevin secured an 86-76 win over Sto-Rox in a WPIAL Class 3A boys basketball game, led by Drew Allen's 31 points. Despite Sto-Rox's comeback attempt, Bishop Canevin maintained control in the final moments. Other notable games included Moon's strong performance against Montour and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's victory over South Side.

Girls basketball: Montour tops Moon; OLSH, Bishop Canevin post wins

Reese Vojtecky led Montour with 20 points, helping secure a 49-43 comeback win over Moon Area in a girls basketball game Monday night. Other notable performances included Tiffany Miller's 14 points for Montour and a game-leading 22 points from Isabella Sysak for Bishop Canevin.
