In a thrilling WPIAL Class 3A girls basketball game, Quaker Valley's Mimi Thiero scored 24 of her 29 points in the second half, leading her team to a narrow 37-36 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Sto-Rox downed Mohawk, but four other West Hills schools came up short.
High school wrestling: Montour, Moon roll to dual meet victories; Cornell basketball falls
The Montour Spartans defeated Blackhawk, 47-17, in a WPIAL Class 3A dual wrestling meet Wednesday night, with pins from Damon Nelson, Ethan Chacon, and Jacob Halbedl. Meanwhile, Moon Area triumphed over West Allegheny, 42-25, supported by four pins from Esken, Gould, Olszewski, and Razipour.

Three wrestlers secured gold in their weight classes, contributing to the team's strong performance. In basketball, Moon won both in boys and girls competition and Carlynton's boys also won.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart defeated Neshannock 60-43 in boys basketball action Friday night, handing the Lancers their first loss in WPIAL Class 2A. Tiernan McCullough and Jake Johnson led with 16 points each. In other matches, Bishop Canevin and Montour fell while Carlynton bested Jefferson-Morgan in girls action.
