High school basketball: Holiday tournaments keep West Hills schools plenty busy

The Moon Area boys basketball team defeated Largo (Md.) 72-66 in the Governor's Challenge tournament. Other boys winners in holiday tournament action were OLSH and Montour. In girls play, Montour, Moon, OLSH and Carlynton all prevailed.

HS roundup: Moon’s Smarsh takes home gold at Powerade wrestling tournament

Haley Smarsh from Moon Area won gold in the 130-pound class at the Girls Powerade wrestling Tournament, achieving a 4-0 record. In girls basketball action, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 43-33, while in boys play, Carlynton fell to South Park, 60-31.

High school roundup: Sto-Rox, Moon, Bishop Canevin boys post wins

Sto-Rox defeated Carlynton 57-30 in a boys basketball game Tuesday night, led by L.J. Washington and Marcus Griffin's combined 35 points. Bishop Canevin triumphed over McGuffey, while Aquinas Academy secured a win against Cornell. In hockey, Quaker Valley edged Montour 1-0, and Canon-McMillan overcame Moon Area 3-1, maintaining its division lead.

Girls basketball: Sto-Rox, Montour, OLSH all claim wins at PBC Classic in Ambridge

Brooklyn Sykes scored 27 points, leading Sto-Rox to a 42-23 victory over Ambridge Saturday in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Hall of Fame girls basketball classic . Montour defeated Hopewell 73-33, with Siena Palmer contributing 16 points. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart beat Keystone Oaks 39-24, highlighted by Lola Garner's 10 points.

High school roundup: OLSH boys top Union; OLSH, Sto-Rox and Montour girls fall

Jake Johnson's 17 points led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 56-35 boys basketball win over Union. In girls basketball, Quaker Valley's Mimi Thiero scored 38 points, defeating OLSH 49-30. Other games included Mohawk's close win against Sto-Rox and South Fayette's triumph over Montour.

Moon Area's boys basketball team defeated Obama Academy 52-38, led by Jackson Bauman's 14 points. The team improved to 4-1. In other games, OLSH whipped Laurel, 62-49, behind Tiernan McCullough's 21 points and 18 from Frankie Igrec while Montour and Cornell both lost.
