Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's boys and girls basketball teams cruised to easy victories Monday night. Moon Area's girls also won, but both Sto-Rox boys and girls teams both tasted defeat.
Benefit game to raise funds for Kennedy Township resident
Tuesday night's Montour-Chartiers Valley boys basketball matchup will feature two of the section's best teams, but much more will be at stake. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be a fundraiser for Kennedy Township resident Brad "Pooky" McGowan, who is battling stage 4 renal cell carcinoma.
Boys basketball: Montour, Moon post wins; Carlynton comes up short
Montour had little trouble taking care of host Mars Saturday, as the Spartans rolled to a WPIAL Class 5A Section 4 boys basketball victory. Moon, meanwhile, squeezed past Allderdice in a non-section game and Carlynton fell to Ambridge.
Girls basketball: Moon Area tops Pine-Richland; Montour falls to Mars
Moon Area used 27 points from Jaedin Griggs and some key fourth-quarter contributions from Maria Depner to beat Pine-Richland Saturday in a girls basketball matchup. Montour, meanwhile, fell to Mars.
High school basketball: Carlynton crushes Cornell; Montour’s Sow hits the 1,000-point mark
Damien Holloway scored 22 points and Devonte Dean added 19 as Carlynton breezed past Cornell in a boys basketball game Friday night. Montour and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart also won, as did Carlynton's girls.
