Moon Area's Cael Yanek brought home gold Saturday from the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships, which wrapped up its two-day run at Fox Chapel High School. Moon finished fifth as a team while Montour wound up 21st and Carlynton 23rd among 37 schools.

Montour had little trouble taking care of host Mars Saturday, as the Spartans rolled to a WPIAL Class 5A Section 4 boys basketball victory. Moon, meanwhile, squeezed past Allderdice in a non-section game and Carlynton fell to Ambridge.

The Carlynton Cougars boys swim team used a first-place finish in the final event of the meet Friday night to beat Keystone Oaks, 69-67. The Cougars girls fell 84-66 despite a number of individual event wins.

Moon Area used 27 points from Jaedin Griggs and some key fourth-quarter contributions from Maria Depner to beat Pine-Richland Saturday in a girls basketball matchup. Montour, meanwhile, fell to Mars.
High school basketball: Carlynton crushes Cornell; Montour’s Sow hits the 1,000-point mark
Damien Holloway scored 22 points and Devonte Dean added 19 as Carlynton breezed past Cornell in a boys basketball game Friday night. Montour and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart also won, as did Carlynton's girls.
